The Senior Business Analyst is responsible for gathering, analyzing, documenting and validating the needs of stakeholders. The focus of a Senior Business Analyst is to plan and lead the review and analysis an organization’s business, including its business intentions, business services, business processes and information needs. This analysis should help the business implement changes that lead to business improvements.

 

Key responsibilities

 

Business Analysis

  • Analyzing and delivering business process initiatives, either managing some components of mid-sized initiatives or all components of small initiatives
  • Developing functional specifications that design and document desired outcome of system enhancement/development
  • Producing technical specifications to communicate user requirements in technical terms to analyst programmers/project team
  • Working as a crucial component of a project team responsible for enhancing existing systems or developing new systems
  • Analyzing workflow to create process maps and isolate areas of potential improvement
  • Investigating operational requirements, problems, and opportunities, seeking effective business solutions through improvements in automated and non-automated components of new or changed processes
  • Assisting in the analysis of stakeholder objectives, and the underlying issues arising from investigations into business requirements and problems, and identifying options for consideration
  • Identifying potential benefits, and available options for consideration
  • Working with clients/users in defining acceptance tests

 

Requirements Definition and Management

  • Correctly selecting, implementing and maintaining the processes, tools and techniques relating to system/solution/service design activities
  • Correctly identifying the IT/technology architectures that need to be referenced during system/solution/service design activities, and applying all relevant information from them to inform system/solution/service design activities
  • Clearly identifying what changes may be required to translate a logical system/solution/service design into an appropriate physical design
  • Being fully accountable for the quality and effectiveness of any logical and physical system/solution/service design elements produced within own area of accountability
  • Specifying user/system interfaces, and translating logical designs into physical designs taking account of target environment, performance requirements and existing systems
  • Producing detailed designs and document all work using required standards, methods and tools, including prototyping tools where appropriate

 

Business Process Testing

  • Planning, designing, managing, executing and reporting of business process tests and usability evaluations
  • Specifying and developing test scenarios to test that new/updated processes deliver improved ways of working for the end user at the same time as delivering efficiencies and planned business benefits
  • Using test plans and outcomes to specify user instructions
  • Recording and analyzing test results, and reporting any unexpected or unsatisfactory outcomes

 

Business modelling

  • Being conversant with techniques covering full range of modelling situations
  • Using appropriate tools and techniques to document business process models
  • Modelling current and desired scenarios as directed
  • Documenting business models in a clear and understandable manner
  • Producing accurate, clear and timely models that document business processes, data and organizational entities
  • Accurately recording and storing relevant information and data about the business
  • Gaining agreement from subject matter experts to models produced
  • Reviewing resulting models with stakeholders and gaining resolution to resultant issues

 

Testing

  • Coordinating User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to ensure the overall efficiency, functionality and user friendliness of system enhancement/development
  • Reviewing requirements and specifications, and defining test conditions
  • Designing test cases and test scripts under own direction, mapping back to pre-determined criteria, recording and reporting outcomes
  • Analyzing and reporting test activities and results, and identifying and reporting issues and risks associated with own work

 

Business Analysis Process Improvement

  • Following the strategy, policies, plans and standards relating to software process improvement activities
  • Correctly using/applying the processes, procedures, methods, tools and techniques applicable to software process improvement activities and their deliverables
  • Providing input into the continuous improvement of Aurecon’s software development lifecycle, contributing effectively to identifying new areas of software process improvement within Aurecon
  • Developing and maintaining a detailed knowledge of software process improvement
  • Carrying out software process improvement assignments, justified by measurable business benefits
  • Taking part in reviewing own and colleagues' work

 

Change Leadership and Communications

  • Contribute to the process for managing the operational change journey and stakeholder communications as aligned to the execution of initiatives, programs and projects identified on the IT portfolio map.

Experience, qualifications 

 

  • Tertiary qualification in Information Systems, Computer Science or related discipline
  • At least 8 years of experience in Business Analysis
  • Strong ability to converse with both end-users and IT employees at all levels of the organization
  • Extensive experience in analyzing, isolating and interpreting business needs and designing appropriate technical solutions
  • Able to challenge the business where appropriate to manage expectations and highlight risks/issues
  • Sound technical specification writing/documentation skills
  • An appreciation of both IT and business strategy
  • Experience facilitating workshops
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Experience working in both Agile and Waterfall environments highly desirable
  • ITIL qualification an advantage
