The Competency Coordinator is responsible in supporting competency based learning and assessment of our Project Delivery function to ensure staff have the required competencies to undertake their work in a skilled, safe and effective manner.

This role will also play a significant role in supporting the Competency assessors, by ensuring a moderated, balanced assessment is conducted on all staff.  They will also support professional development of project delivery staff with both on and off the job training advice.

Role responsibilities

  • Reports to the Technical Capability Manager
  • Contribute to, support and maintain the Project Governance Competency Management quality assurance processes
  • Provide support to Candidates undertaking self-assessment and formal assessment processes
  • Coordinate and support Competency Assessors, as required
  • Liaise with Business Unit Managers and other relevant stakeholders to provide information and advice related to the Project Governance Competency Standards.
  • Maintain assessment documentation, in accordance with appropriate records management systems and procedures and Aurecon requirements, to support internal accreditation.
  • Contribute to the development of effective training packages that ensure the transfer of technical skills and competencies to staff in both on the job and off the job training.
  • Provide assessment support services, to ensure business unit staff maintain and develop necessary competencies.
  • Participate in appropriate discussion groups, contributing ideas for improving work practices, consistent with the organisation’s goal to achieve a high standard of quality in every process, product and service.
  • Monitor assessment activities and outcomes, ensuring compliance with business requirements; best practice; endorsed assessment principles; Aurecon policies and procedures; industry standards; and relevant legislation.
  • Review and provide feedback, as required, relating to the results of the assessment and/or any non-compliance issues
  • Provide monitoring and compliance reports to the Competency Manager, as required

Key Functions of the role

  • Prepare Assessment timelines, for individuals and Business Units, liaising with Business Unit Managers to ensure timely assessment of staff within programme parameters and guidelines
  • Liaise and schedule assessors to meet assessment requirements and timelines
  • Monitor assessment activities to ensure compliance with relevant Aurecon and industry assessment requirements
  • Assist in preparing assessment reports for candidates in accordance with feedback provided by assessor
  • Assist assessors to provide constructive feedback to candidates in accordance with Aurecon’s policies and procedures
  • Participate in, and support the assessment validation and moderation processes
  • Support assessors and participate in individual assessment discussions, as required


  • Strong experience and understanding in competency based training and assessment processes
  • Significant, demonstrable experience in competency based assessment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Outstanding presentation skills with a strong customer engagement focus
  • Excellent time management skills – managing competing priorities effectively

Qualifications and experience - Desirable

  • Experience (+2 years in the last 4 years) in a learning and development environment
  • Experience (+2 years in the last 4 years) in supporting a competency based assessment processes
  • Knowledge and experience related to training compliance requirements for assessment
